Although this project involved an intensive shutdown, the major focus was during the pre-shutdown phase. The project involved FRP fabrication/installation, electrical, instrumentation, insulation, painting, structural steel and pipe fabrication/installation. Ninety percent of the work was completed during the pre-shutdown phase in preparation for the intensive five-day shutdown. An informal partnering arrangement was developed early in the project to ensure all client/contractor expectations would be met. Safety was a concern for everyone involved due to the hazards associated with Block 80 (chlorine, hydrogen chloride, sulphuric acid, caustic and high voltage cells). All work was completed on or ahead of schedule and on budget despite the hundreds of changes.
