This 1,526-ft main cable-stayed bridge has become a landmark in the Vancouver area, and until recently, enjoyed the reputation of being the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world. Working over water proved an extremely difficult task as the deck was unstable during construction. To deal with this, temporary bracing was required to prevent swaying over the icy cold waters. The Fraser Bridge was completed ahead of schedule and has become a necessary part of Vancouver’s infrastructure for handling a good deal of commuter traffic.
